Welcome to our primary/secondary transition area on our website. This page is for all students who are joining the Poly in September 2021 and their families.
We understand that this time is uncertain for all, but particularly for those children moving from primary to secondary schools this year. Please rest assured that we are doing all we can behind the scenes to plan for a smooth transition for your child. We work closely with all primary schools to gather as much information as possible about the children coming to us. This is something that we would usually do, and this has not changed.
We are continually reviewing our transition process and we are hoping that we will be able to run face to face meetings with you in the Summer term. We will be adding a transition timeline at a later date to give you an idea of next steps in this exciting process.
Please check back to this page regularly for updates, and please bear with us at this uncertain time. If ever you have any questions, please give the school a ring or email us at firstname.lastname@example.org
We hope that this reassures our new students and their families. We can't wait to welcome our next year group into the Poly! Stay safe and take care. We will see you soon.
The Woolwich Polytechnic School for Girls team
Thank you for accepting our offer of a place at Woolwich Polytechnic School for Girls. We are excited to welcome you in to our ‘Poly family’ as your child joins us in September. To help make the transition from primary to secondary as smooth as possible, there are a few key dates we would like you to keep free over the course of this term.
Thursday 10th of June – 12.30pm till 6pm - Year 6 interviews. We will be inviting you and your child to come and join us in school, although we will limit this to one parent and the child only, as we need to limit the number of visitors on site. Please bring a mask to wear on site. Please attend during your allocated time slot:
Student surnames starting from A to F: 13.00 to 14.30.
Student surnames starting from G to N: 14.45 to 16.15.
Student surnames starting from O to Z: 16.30 to 18.00.
Saturday the 12th of June; 10am till 3.30pm – CATS test. We will be asking you to bring your child to school to complete their CATs tests. These are tests that help us to work out your child’s strengths and areas for development. We are not a selective school (these are not ‘entrance exams’) but will help us to support your child academically in the future.
Student surnames from A to K: 10.00 to 12.15
Student surnames from L: to Z: 13.15 to 15.30
Wednesday the 7th July; whole school day – provisional transition day. We are awaiting confirmation from Greenwich Borough that this date will go ahead, but usually every child would have the opportunity to attend secondary school for a taster day. Once we have confirmation of this date, we will provide you with more information including timings of the day.
We know that because of Covid-19 and lockdown, we have not been able to welcome you and your child for an open evening and understand your child may have questions about secondary school. We are in the process of organising virtual meetings with all our primary schools, so that students can meet someone from the school. We have a dedicated email address for transition which is email@example.com or feel free to call the school.
"We know that some of you may have not visited the school before and might have some questions about finding your way around building. We hope that this tour answers some of your questions until we are able to meet you in school"
